Water is dispensing even with no filter, not going through the filter

I have previously been successful in changing the water filter in my Samsung refrigerator model # RS2530BWP. This time, the filter is completely dry, the water going to the ice maker and the dispenser is not going through the filter. Also, the dispenser works fine when the filter is removed - as though the water is bypassing the filter all together. Is this possible? Is this a housing defect, a valve issue, or other?? Thanks for any assistance you can offer!

I noticed the same. Filter is always dry. Works with no filter in place. I think it's a filter gimmic. Just keep replacing filters every 6 months. Been like this since new. I think Samsung should reimburse me for all the filters I've bought, plus exchange the fridge.

I just experienced the same but worked out the fix. When you twist the filter into the filter body you can mistakenly think it has, "gone all the way home". Actually it need another 1/8th of a turn to open the valve to the filter cartridge and close the bypass. It is quite stiff and getting enough purchase can be difficult. When it is twisted fully home there is gurgling and you then need to run about 10 litres of water through it until the initial loose carbon in the internal filter matrix comes out and the water runs clear.

Thanks. This is the advice I needed. I kept thinking the water was not going into the filter because there was no weight difference between the new and old filters but there was no way to prove it. I didn't want to turn it too hard for fear of breaking the nozzle but I made the effort and turned the filter an extra 1/8th inch turn this time and heard it click into place. Ran some water through, where it hissed and spit and I had remembered before all this happened. I removed the filter and it was dripping with water and that told me tis was my answer! I am finally getting filtered water again. Thank you so much!

Just recently I went to my local appliance store and spoke with a "good ole boy," an older gentleman who has seen it all. He was pretty sure (correctly!) that it was the filter housing unit - the thing the filter actually attaches to. (I can get the part number for my model fridge if that'd be helpful.) Apparently there is some sort of valve in there... who knew?? NOW I know just had bad my water was actually tasting!!

Water filter light came on after 6 months. Ordered some new filters. When they arrived I took out the old filter, not one drop of water came out of filter. The new filter weighed the same as the old. I put the old filter in and turned as far as I could still nothing. Gave it one more try thinking the housing was going to break. It went further and I could hear water running into the filter.

Now I know. Hope this helps someone!

I was able to screw my filter in more and now i know the filter is in more cause air came out but after running it to bleed the system it didn't get any stronger flow. About 4oz in

8 sec. Is this normal flow rate?
