PS4 turns off randomly, must remove plug to turn back on.

For a few months now my PS4 turns off randomly while I'm playing. Sometimes it turns off after 10mins and sometimes after a few hours. When it does turn off, I have to take the plug out and put it back in twice before I can turn it on again (sometimes I do this with the plug in order to turn it on in the first place).

I have had this PS4 for a year and a half with no problems. I have called Sony and they have no idea what the cause is.

Could it be a power supply issue? Power cable?

I appreciate any help!

i'm getting the exact issue, need help urgently plz..

Sony said to update my firmware to the latest update, i did that same issue, ps4 still shuts off randomly

my ps4 turned off when I was playing fortnite and HDMI cable does not say PlayStation 4and I was trying to turn it on with the controller and did not work :(

Please I don’t know what to do I have to take out my HDMI and put it back in for it my ps4 to start going again, it randomly turns off I don’t know why, it actually takes 3 or 2 time for it start, and I have only had it for 2years ( please give me some tips

This is not a power supply problem. There are several things that may be causing your problem and none of them are good or easy to fix. Sony knows exactly what the cause is and they will do nothing to help you. The cause is either from faulty solder joints between the APU and motherboard (many times caused by oxidized solder pads on the APU) or one of the other components on the motherboard. Sometimes it's a RAM chip causing the problem sometimes it's something else.

I'm sorry to bring you the bad news.

Thank you for your answer, is this a rare problem because I can hardly find anyone with the exact same problem as me? Also, do those things count as a manufacturers fault?

For me it is not rare...I see it all the time in my business. For the random PS4 owner it's probably not common.

So I spoke to the retailer, they said if I can get any professional to say its a manufacturing fault then I can get a free replacement. Any advice?

Who do they consider a "professional"? Who is the retailer. For some reason I don't believe them.

They said any small or large business that can inspect the playstation console. The retailer is Argos.

Hey so this happened to my PS4 pretty frequently. Last night me and my gf got fed up so we put her PS4 in our bedroom (her PS4 has never done this , and it’s like 2nd gen???) then boom today it shut off while she was watching Netflix. This proves it’s not an Internal problem (which I previously thought) but either a problem with the tv I’m using or the cords. I will be switching out the power cord for my PS4 and seeing if this helps

In electronics heat and solder joints cause a lot of issue and if everyone have the same problem it will be on a certain part of the motherboard .

This is a PSU problem. If there was an oxydezed joint or RAM chip it will cause software error and even boot into safe mode with error codes. Soecially if it was RAM error. Oxydezed joints will give you overheat on the CPU and will not turn back on immediatelly. In fact it will stop turning on after a few times you try. This is a VRM chip problem caused by the PSU simple. Just change your PSU and you are good.

My Ps4 only shuts off while playing online games or streaming games through PS now app... I can play on a disc game for hours no problem, but as soon as I try and upload a game online it will work for a bit then automatically cut off... it's very infuriating!!!

Changing PSU does not work in my case. Exact same problem. Even tried running it from a lab bench supply.

My ps4 would also shut off randomly, I had another ps4 with a broken hdmi port. I swapped the motherboards and I still had the issue, I believe their’s something wrong with the motherboard.

Same problem. Tried plugging directly into a socket but same thing happened. Seems to only happen while a game is loading… Tried loading an old PS2 game on it and it worked fine… Soon as I tried a game that came out in the last 5 years it dies… Hoping I see a heap of dust when I open it up and it's a overheating issue. R.I.P.

Idk what’s wrong with my ps4 I have to unplug my power cable plug it back in 3 times and then it switches on properly then I open up a game and I change the game mode I want to play and shuts of or if I invite someone to my lobby it shuts of I really need help
