Battery drains quickly and behaves weirdly after replacement

I replaced my old battery since my phone seemed to drain quicker and quicker but now the battery life is even worse.

  • Before the battery could last a day with light to moderate use
  • Now the battery drains within 4 hours with moderate use
  • My phone will randomly shut down with plenty of battery left (today it happened at 38%). Afterwards I can turn it on again and sometimes use it for extended periods of time
  • If I plug in the charger after this battery percentage will drop while charging before increasing
  • If I plug it in at ~1% battery percentage will often immediately jump up to 20+%
  • The phone does not become any hotter than usual during normal use or while charging
  • I also changed the screen shortly after which could have something to do with it but I had a lot of the same issues with the previous screen as well (not original)

Any idea what could be the cause of this?

Thanks!

I'm in a similar situation, I bought a cheap replacement battery and have the same symptoms. My guess is that it isn't able to maintain sufficient voltage as the battery discharges or during a sudden spike in current draw. I'm just buying a new one and spending a bit more.

Is yours a 1560mah one? Those appear to the cheapest ones, and I'm wondering if they all come the same place.

Yeah that's exactly what I thought. It is but I haven't seen any other batteries claim a different capacity.

My replacement battery arrived and appears to be much better behaved so far. The old one would report "full" for hours after coming off charger, this one is actually draining more linearly as you would expect. It looks like a company named Daeta makes the more trusted batteries (which I bought for around $15), but it looked nearly identical to the cheap not-working one I got. Either the cheap companies are trying to look like the daeta ones, or they're all the same and I just happened to get a bad one the first time around.

I'm not sure if a got a bad battery or wrong APN or just a poor quality one but I ordered a new one and replaced the bad one and this has completely solved my issue. 2.5 hours active use and more than 12 hours of standby time and it's still at 57% which is pretty good I think :)

Sounds like a faulty battery, I would replace it again first, since they are so cheap. If you know the battery is good, it is likely the U2/tristar charging chip on the board.

Could it also be that the person replacing the battery accidentally chipped one of the components above the battery connector on the logic board?

If I remember correctly one of the components and/or fuse reads the battery voltage / capacity and if it can't read it it will cause issues with the phone randomly shutting off and the battery percentage going all over the place.
