The usual Testing Procedure:
- Pull out the SIM Card
- go to Settings -> General -> Reset Network Settings
- Connect it to the Wireless Network
- have a look at your Time and Date is set correctly
- Enter SIM Card and PIN Code

Check if the phone still has an IMEI number displayed in Settings > General > About phone.
What is the history of this phone? Dropped? Water damaged? Parts replaced?
