Can I place an SSD to this mac mini?
I placed an SSD and the fan is going full speed. Any ideas? placed the Thermal sensors all seem ok. Does anyone tried it? Found a solution?

Your system has SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) drive ports. Is the SSD you got state in the spec sheet its compatible? A fixed SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) drive won't work reliably.

The Crucial MX300 SSD is a FIXED SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) SSD which won't work in your SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) system here. Yes, its Mac compatible but only the newer SATA III models not this older model.
You'll need to return it and get one that can. As an example review this SSD's specs in comparison: Samsung 850 EVO. Review the Interface line this drive is also a SATA III drive, but unlike the Crucial MX300 drive this one offers auto SATA port sense technology which allows it to also work in SATA I (1.5 Gb/s) as well as SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) systems.
What ever drive you get, a FIXED SATA II or one that auto senses the systems SATA I/O ports speed it must be able to run at SATA II data rate which is why your Crucial MX300 drive is unable to work in this system.

Dan, Not sure why you down voted me. The OP says his fans are running wild and that is power management. SATA has got nothing to do with this. SATA 3 is downward compatible with sata 2 any day. Please point out what I am missing here.
Nope! SATA III drives are not all the same! Some WILL work as they have more advanced logic to sense the systems SATA ports I/O speed. Others NOT! As they are FIXED and can only be used within a SATA III system.
Don't take my word for it look at the spec sheets I posted and even call Crucial they'll tell you ;-} I have! As I had to learn the hard way too, many years ago.
As to the Fan, well... If the drive issue wasn't present then I would agree it would be the first thing I would do.
But! The drive issue is present and it will cause the fan to go into overdrive as the drive and the system get into a battle, the CRC errors from the bad block transfers cause the drive & system to overheat with all of the retransmissions needed (more so with the system here than the SSD). There is another bad side here is you'll wear out the SSD prematurely as the constant CRC errors force more writes on the SSD burning it out.

Was the drive (knowing the exact model would help), backward compatible?

The SSD is Crucial MX300 275GB. its compatible with mac devices.
