Thanks a lot, guys for extending your support, What are your views about "Repair Business Toolkit" it contains a lot of tools which seems to me useful for most of the repair jobs. What additional items should I add if I go to buy this kit to make my arsenal useful & productive?

Some of the tools you need are:

  • Microscope (I recommend an amScope brand)
  • Soldering Station (One that supports micro soldering since you want to work on phones. Hakko FX-951 is a good station)
  • Solder (Sn63/Pb37 with resin core. I have a MG Chemical brand 0.025" diameter one)
  • Flux (AMTECH brand is the best one I've used)
  • Soldering wick (any is fine, just don't get cheap ones)
  • Hot Air station (I have a fake YIHUA 858D one. Its crappy but it does the job)
  • Fine tweezers
  • Vacuum Pen
  • Multimeter (Fluke brand is good)
  • Screw Set (Like the iFixit "64 Bit Driver Kit")
  • Small vise ("Hakko omnivise" is really good for small PCBs)
  • Stock up on parts! (Keep in mind that you will eventually break an unit)

Optional:

  • Bench Power Supply
  • Hot tweezers (This is really helpful to remove connectors and components)
  • Low melting solder (I use "CHIPQUIK SMD REMOVAL ALLOY". This allows you easily remove anything with ease. You apply a bit of it on any chip/connector and the solder will stay molten for a few extra seconds. Make sure you use a different tip since you don't want to contaminate it with this.)

Its a huge investment but these tools can be used to fix anything (Consoles, tablets, phones, etc). Keep in mind, water damage devices are not fixable! Don't waste your time, they are only good for data recovery.

Happy fixing :)

That will get you started, then you will find new jobs where new tools will come in handy. Fair warning: be prepared to break things. You don't need to invest thousands of dollars in tools to get going but you do need to have a prudent cash reserve to address issues that will pop up. The best advice I can give you is do not work on a device you can't afford to replace.

I had about the same when I started. Fixed an iPhone, bought a set of screwdrivers. Fixed an iPod, bought some scrapers and better tape. Kept on bankrolling things until I broke an iPad. Popped a backlight filter, it happens. Paid to have it fixed out of my own pocket and that sucked hard.
