MacBook all of a sudden works again without repair?

Last week my Macbook Pro 13" Retina (mid 2014 model) stopped working. It would start but no matter what the screen was completely black. It was like that for a week until I had my appointment with Apple where they informed me about what needed done to fix it. It wasn't cheap, £1,200 as they said it had some liquid damage on the display cable, display connector and backlight board keyboard connector.

I handed it but called early the morning after to stop the repair as I heard a rumour there might be a new Macbook that is being introduced next week at the launch event and wanted to wait in case that is true and just update my machine instead.

After bringing it home however, I plugged it in via an HDMI to the TV to try and transfer my files onto an external hard drive and all of a sudden my screens lights up and works perfectly fine, along with the keyboard backlight and well, everything seems perfectly normal.

I am not a computer expert by any means and guess it could just be a case of it working briefly and it shutting off again, but according to the employee the screen should not be working, nor the keyboard backlight - so this has left me rather confused. I called Apple and told them but they said I needed to book an appointment which is first next Friday.

Does anyone maybe have an explanation to this that is more educated than me? I feel kind of stupid almost paying over a grand for a repair and now it is working perfectly fine?

What did Apple say needed to be done for that kind of money? Did they mention the $350 "Flat Rate" repair? Was this Apple or an ASP or third party?

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Keep a Time Machine backup!

Here it is a £69 flat rate for repairs so yes that is included in the price.

They said that I needed to change the logic board, the screen and keyboard - which all works perfectly fine now.

This was a proper Apple Store where I got this information after an appointment at the Genius Bar with an employee. I have just managed to get my backup sorted!

That "flat rate", should be the total fee. Including all parts and labor and shipping! I'd get on the phone with Apple, get a senior advisor, arrange the "flat rate" repair and get it in. Tell them you prefer not to go to the local store. They will FedEx you a shipping box overnight. Total time is four days. They will do this if the machine has not gotten water damaged or had heavy impact damage. The Apple store its ripping you off, don't stand for it! Do you know for a fact that it did have water damage?

Even before reading i did the same, I just purchased a new MacBook Air M1….Plugged in my old laptop to the TV just as the original post said and now it is working just as great as before.

I had a similar problem last week Wednesday I left my Mac book pro 16” 2021 version to charge. I came back home about 1 hr later and realized the mag safe cable was not showing a green light as it usually does when the computer is fully charged. There usually is an orange light when the computer is charging. However I noticed that there was no light in the MagSafe cable. I checked the power brick with another cable and the power brick worked. So I thought it could be some shorts with the cable itself. The following day I took the computer to a local authorized apple dealer and they plugged their cable in the computer…still their MagSafe cable did not show neither an orange or green light. I sent the computer back to New York where it was originally bought. When the dealer opened the computer the Apple logo came on the screen. This did not happen when I tried for the past week. The agent said he did a diagnostic on the machine and the battery is fine. How do you explain this?
