It appears that my batteries have bulged

Since I don't know the size of the battery before this happened I can't confirm for sure this is the case but if I rest my hands on the palm rest and push down the back of the computer rocks up. This is because the base no longer sits on the 4 pads on the corners but is resting on the middle (ish) of the aluminum. It's bulging. I did open the base and the batteries (or battery pack if it's one thing) all have a distinct inflation to them. They seem to be working ok although the life isn't what it once was. I'd like to get this fixed but from what I read here it's very difficult to get them off the cover due to very strong adhesive. I'm not sure why Apple felt it necessary to use such strong adhesive since they could easily be held in place otherwise but no mater, it is what it is. Should I risk this replacement perhaps using a heatgun on the top of the case to loosen the adhesive or is it too risky. I'm pretty handy but I'm not a professional apple repair person. I have successfully replaced glass on an Ipad 3

Your trackpad issues are most likely related to pressure on the bottom of the pad from the battery. If left to long a swollen battery can and has broken the pad.

Thanks for posting your machine model, I had to have that. Now comes the dodo part. It is glued in. See this teardown of what the iFixit team did to get it out: Teardown des MacBook Pro 15" mit Retina Display von Ende 2013

First disconnect the battery from the logic board.

A better way than what iFixit did, is to use a syringe with a water free alcohol. Fill it and shoot it under the battery one section at a time (this loosens the adhesive), and lay it up. It takes me about five minutes to get the battery out.

Apple wants you to buy the whole upper case to do this.

Get a high quality battery like this one (they also show an installation guide): http://www.laptopbatteryexpress.com/15-i...

In my humble opinion this was probably the first MBP that Tim Cook fully approved and the idea was to make it so that only Apple would be able to do the repair for a gross amount of money and thus enhance his own greedy pockets. Steve Jobs would never have approved of this engineering travesty nor attempt at avarice. Shame on ya Cook ;-(

I have this problem too but the backplate isn't bulging yet. I opened the laptop to replace the feet when I noticed puffed up battery packs. While closing the backplate, I had to press it and there was definite pressure on it from the puffed up batteries.

How long should I wait to replace the battery? I still get 3-5 hours depending on use. The current cycle count is 501 and the full charge capacity is 82.3% of the original.

@toufeeq I would replace it immediately. Once the pressure has been released on a battery I have seen them swell 1" in a day. It will damage your trackpad.

I have booked the appointment with apple repair center tomorrow.. hoping to get this issue resolved soon.

Personally, I think you will be able to do this repair yourself. However, I would advise against a heat gun unless you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing in regards to how long you heat it, etc.

I use an old credit card or something close to it that is sturdy but thin, and very carefully peel off the parts of the battery, starting from the outside and working in. Be careful not to gouge or push in any part underneath the battery, especially near the trackpad. As each part begins to un-adhere, it will get easier.

As always, unplug the battery and discharge the case beforehand, and be especially careful to take your time, if you work hard and respect your product it will save you a lot of money.

Thank you. The trackpad is not working anymore either so I'll probably see if I can't replace that as well. Actually it sort of works but occassionally just takes off on it's own or the click doesn't work well. I've turned it off in order to continue using the computer.

Oh and I do know what you mean about the heat gun. They get VERY hot very fast so I was expecting to be VERY careful with it.

Use an iOpener also :)

Hey folks, I have swapped a Macbook Pro keyboard over and bought a new one original, and have took all the parts out and swapped very carefully may i say, only about 5 hours to do it all, along with photos stepping the way for me not to miss anythings, until the battery i could not take out of the old keyboard that was damaged, and well now i can hear the system boot up and the sounds etc yet no display, the keyboard backlight works ok, Question is can the battery as i have had to resort to pulling and tugging it off the casing to get it out and swap it to the new casing, but if it is damaged would this affect the screen use? I have checked and double checked the logic board, and all connections, fans, ssd drive, and all the tiny ribbons and are all in place as zoomed in on my magnifier here on my imac through a optical 200x times camera, yet still no screen display but can hear it loading up. The battery section all 6 of them some of the plastic was torn in the process, so wanted to know if i buy new battery and fit would this rectify the problem of display showing…..thankyou.
