Old timer tube television isn't working

Hello everybody,

My tube television, which i bought second hand, isn't working. Sometimes i can hear noise from speaker a blank noise and the device isn't have any image on screen, only when i left the television on for longer time and then shut it off than i will see a white dot in the middle of the screen. I have pulled some tubes and cleaned the foots with contact spray then left it dry very well for a couple of days, then reinsert them, but that was not bringen the life back of my 60 years old vintage television. It's an 17tx180 from philips

@onthego just to make sure you are familiar with the voltages on tube TV's? You do recognize that those things can kill you if you are not careful.

@onthego again be aware of the dangers that come with working on CRT's. They pack enough of a punch to kill you. You do want to check your tubes, cleaning them with contact spray is not enough. You do want to make sure that they work. Secondly be aware of the way the components are wired. There is no circuitboard or similar. The components are most commonly wired/soldered directly together and can be a mess to figure out. Your TV set will most likely have issues with the power supply, as well as dried out capacitors. This is a big and very dangerous job, but rewarding if you can figure it out. Again be extremely careful with this. The best I can do to assist you, besides telling you to be extremely careful, is by providing the repair manual with schematic. It is printed in Dutch but should work for you. Philips 17TX180 Oh and just in case I forgot, be careful!

That's why i'm asking here. I know that there are voltages up to 10th of kilovolts inside a tv. I was hoping that the solution was simpel. I do not pleasure want to work in the tv, because it can be very dangerous. How many you're think is money value up to, to sell the tv second hand as not working?

Oh, and all tubes are glowing well. I did'nt see one tube not glowing. Maybe this is usefull to say?

Yes, it's a mess to figure out that underside of the television.

And the chassis is under voltage too, so not nice to do

Yes it is a common issue with vintage electronic that you have a "Hot Chassis", that is why you see the use of isolation transformer and rewiring of the original equipment. Your TV is at an age where I would suggest, if anything, to check all resistors and capacitors. I am certain you have plenty of wax and paper components that are dried out. Again be careful.

Not sure of the "value" of the TV that will depend on who is looking to buy. You have a very limited market for that.
