Start Up Chime repeats

Hello - My iMac, 20 inch early 2008 won't start up. When the power button is pressed i get the start up chime, the fans turn on, the HD spins then the start up chime sounds again and again in an endless loop.. No video comes on, the keyboard is non responsive. This came upon as a result of over heating I think. Months before this happened the iMac was working sluggish and had frequent freezes.. I opened up the iMac and it had heavy dust clogs on the vents and all inside. Only #1 and #2 LEDs light up..

I have backed up all data on the Drive so the drive is OK.. The memory Chips are fine.. Visually the Motherboard looks fine.. All the tools I have are those for tearing things apart. I cannot test for voltages or any other electronic stuff..

Does anyone have Idea of what part was affected??

Sounds like a GPU failure. I have had a 70% success rate using a hot air flow on the video card, Here's how to get it out: iMac Intel 20" EMC 2133 and 2210 Video Card Replacement

Oh Great! I was hoping someone with the knowledge like you answered my call.. Very much appreciated. There isn't much on the internet on this topic. The Repeating startup chime I mean.

Can you please elaborate on the Hot Air flow.. I Can do the teardown without a hitch - all thanks to the detailed instructions on this website.

What is this hot air flow method on the GPU? I have the same issue but many other articles I read mention the MLB - main logic board - as the problem?

Mark if you are only going to use it rarely, you can go with a cheap one like this
