Seeking info to replace cord for very old dremel-like craftsman tool

The cord on my ancient craftsman dremel-like tool is cracked and disintegrating, and needs to be replaced. The model number is hidden under a part and can't be seen w/out disassembling.

Does it need a special cord or can I use lamp cord? It shaped like a gun with a handle coming down from the main part. The cord on it now is round and thick.

Most hardware stores have spools of electrical cable. Remove the cord from the tool and bring it to your favorite Hardware store. They will help you build a cord for your tool with the proper ends and gauge. Make sure its grounded and the gauge wire is the same or heavier than the original. I love being able to fix these old tools, they don't make them like they used to.

I agree with @mayer, a picture would be helpful.

That said, if your electrical cord is "disintegrating", then it is absolutely not safe to use. As far as replacing it, you need to replace it with a cord that has the same gauge of wire to insure that it can handle the current required by your drill. A competent clerk at a hardware store should be able to show you similar gauge wired you need.
