TV remote control won't change volume even with new batteries

The remote control works for everything on the TV but hardly works at all to change the volume level. I have to keep pressing the button over and over to change the audio level but most times it will not work at all. I have put in new batteries but that does not change anything.

@chemainiac , Ian, find below a few links on how to dissmantle and clean a remote when 1 or more buttons are not functioning properly, may not be your exact model but fairly generic to clean remote. If after cleaning your remote still not functioning properly, consider replacing it with a univerasal remote which sometimes can even be found at the dollar stores or any big box store selling TV's.

As a qualified electornic technician that spent his whole apprenticeship fixing remote controls this is the best method. Another thign you can look for is fractures in the PCB around where the volume control buttons would sit. you might of cracked the PCB by pressing the buttons harder when they get less responive.

ANother thing to note is like model remote controls tendto work on the same devices. I have the same samsung remote for my TV that i grabbed out of a media installtion i did else where. the remote does all the basic functions fine, (power, channel, menus and volume) so picking up a second hand remote of the toshiba brand is also an option.

how to fix when Device Won't Respond to Remote Control Commands

Make sure your components are turned on and yourTV is set to display the appropriate video source.

You must put the remote in the correct mode bypressing the corresponding component key (TV,DVD, VCR, AUX, SAT·CBL) so the remote knowswhich component you want to operate.

Remove any obstacles between the remote and thecomponent. Make sure to aim the remote at the IRsensor on the component.

Make sure the batteries are fresh and are properlyinstalled. Replace the batteries with two new AAAbatteries, if necessary. Reprogramming may berequired.

Reset the remote using these steps. If the indicatorlight lights up, reprogram the remote and try again. If it doesn’t light up, replace the batteries with newones
