There is Grey Flickering Lines, touch screen won't work.

I have an iphone6s plus. I have grey flickering lines which from top to bottom. They flicker as soon as I touch the side power button or the home button. It does not allow me to use the screen at all, it will not let me unlock the phone, it will not let me do anything as my finger touches the screen. The power button works + home button. I wish I can fix this for as cheap as possible, I am very low on money.

I searched multiple sites and came across as the component that must be replaced or fixed is called "IC CHIP"? I maybe mistaken. Please let me know what I can do or any tips would be helpful!

Thank You--- I Fixit GROUP AND MEMBERS!

Hi,

first I believe you have just an original iPhone 6 plus and not the 6s plus. Reason I believe this is the iPhone 6s plus almost never has this issue, while the original 6 plus is notorious for it. If you look at the back of the iPhone and see an "s" right above designed by Apple in California then you have a 6s plus. If you don't have this standalone S then you just have the original iPhone 6 plus.

Aside from that you're correct on your research. This sounds 100% like a classic touch controller ic problem. What happens with the iPhone 6 plus is overtime the phone bends and puts stress on the motherboard itself. This puts stress on the connection from your controller ic to the board (connection is in the form of solder balls). Occasionally the chip can fail but more often than not its stress on the connection that.

Correctly fixing this would require removal of at least the meson ic (this is the larger one and usually causes the problem) and replacing it with a new one while touching up the connections.

Unfortunately to find a quality solder technician who can do the job correctly probably won't do this for less than $80.00. Most do it for $99.99 and above.

Hello Johnny, sorry to hear about your problem. Considering you have the lines on the screen that you are talking about, i do not think it is an IC chip problem. I would just go ahead and do a LCD and Digitizer replacement for the phone. If you do it your self or take it to someone to fix it, you can test the new screen before actually installing it, and that will tell you exactly if it is the IC chip or not. since your trying to get it done for as cheap as possible, doing it yourself will save you some money, although i do not really recommend it. First make sure it is a 6s plus. On the back of the phone on the bottom it will have a small "s" under the "iPhone" letters. If it does not have an "s", it is just a regular iphone 6 plus. Which is good news because the LCDs for iphone 6 plus are way cheaper then iphone 6s plus (yes the 2 LCD's are different, its so stupid). When you buy the LCD, make sure they have a good return policy as well, just in case your IC chip is damaged, you can return the screen and not lose any money. I would suggest just ordering it from amazon. and dont try to buy the cheapest one, sometimes they are faulty or not compatible.

If you have any more questions, i would be more than happy. Just make sure you verify exactly which phone you have, then even if you are going to take it somewhere to get fixed, buy your own screen and just have them charge you for labor. Its much cheaper that way.
