Why is my Huawei-mate 7 blinking with a red light. (salt water)

Yesterday I was swimming. I had put my phone into a waterproof bag that I had brought. It worked 2 times and the 3rd time water got it. I didn't see how much got in but it wasn't fully soaked in sea water. 2 hourd after I had been 'swimming' with my phone we got home. I dried it and put it in rice. I left it in for 20 hours. I took it out and tried to turn it on nothing worked. I put it on my charger and it flashed with a battery symbol saying my phone was super flat. Now im just waiting for what will happen next. Any advice?

Don't Put Your Device in Rice. Here's Why...

Hi,

As you know water and electronics and electricity are not a good mix.

The water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the phone's operating design and could damage the components.

Rice is good to eat but does nothing to fix the problems caused by corrosion.

First do not turn on your phone and then you need to with the phone turned off, remove the battery as soon as possible from the phone to minimize further damage.''

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the phone and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 90%+ to remove all traces of corrosion and water. Do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is only 70% and is not as effective. If you do check the label to verify the amount

Electronics Water Damage

You may have to replace the battery as it is very hard to recover a battery from water damage.

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted PCBs be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board.

Hopefully after you have done all this the phone might possibly work correctly again.

If this process seems too daunting, take your phone to a reputable, professional mobile phone repair service experienced in water damage repair and ask for a quote for a repair. If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later.

It has now vibrated a few times. The light turned red and now has finally turning yellow. It is charging now but the screen is just black.

I'm so slow at answering questions, once the page refreshed from my answering this was 11 minutes old. Puma, you should still clean out your phone. Delayed corrosion can still hurt.

Thanks for the help. I'll try to open my phone. I was looking through the instructions that I got with my phone. It suggested not to open the back of your phone by yourself. I plug it into my computer and the light turned green then orange once again.

Saltwater is pretty bad for phones-highly corrosive and causes bad rust-but never fear! There is still hope!

Use the below guide to clean it out. While you do that, there should be a sticker in there that indicates if water damage is present. It will be white with red X's on it or lines like so: /////// or |||||||| or XXXXXX

Thank you for the help. It's difficult to open the back of my phone. As the battery is built into the phone. So far i'm considering to take it to the shop to see if they can save it or not.

Oper er' up. What hurt can it do to an already broken phone?

Please stop plugging in your liquid damage phone as it will most likely cause more damage to the phone witch will accumulate over time.

No point leaving it plugged in unless you actually open it up, clean up inside at least.

I charged my phone Media Tab37 after few hours i pulled of the charger. It than simple went blank. It keeps on fleeking the green light what should I do. I bought it on the 4th of May 2018

Hi @cmaliey ,

As it's only about a week old, take it back to where you bought it, as it is faulty.

If the retailer doesn't want to help, consult the manufacturer's warranty statement that should have come with the phone as to what to do to make a claim for a warranty replacement or refund.
