Non-Apple SSD blade in iMac 21.5" Late 2013 PCIe slot?

I've made a low-cost SSD upgrade to a MacBook Air 11" Mid 2012 (MD224) from 128 GB factory default to 500 GB Samsung 850 Evo M.2 NGFF SSD in the past, using this cheap M.2 NGFF SSD to 18+8pin SSD Adapter. Works like charm and much, much cheaper than a genuine Apple SSD module.

I'm trying to figure out if there’s such a low-cost SSD upgrade path using the PCIe slot in an iMac 21.5" Late 2013 (EMC 2638; Model ID iMac14,3) as well. I'm aware of the option the replace the 2.5" HDD with an 2.5" SSD, but I'd like to keep the internal 1TB HDD and add a 500 GB SSD blade module to the PCIe slot. Unfortunately the genuine ones from Apple are totally overpriced.

Anyone knows of a low-cost adapter for using generic SSD blades in the said iMac, such as the above Samsung Evo 850 M.2 SSD or another PCIe-based solution other than going for a used genuine Apple SSD blade?

Unfortunately it does not appear that any third party manufacturers have reverse-engineered the proprietary SSD slot on the iMacs yet. OWC only accomplished this with the Late 2013 through Mid 2015 MacBook Pro Retina models last year. For the time being, it appears you're stuck with the options of an expensive Apple part, or a 2'5" SSD replacing your hard drive.

I have the same situation in this thread Which SSD should I buy, PCIe or mSATA, on iMac EMC 2638 (Late 2013)?. I think that it's possible to upgrade iMac Late 2013 with M.2 SSD using some sort of adapter. I'm just looking for approvement.

Hello, I have an iMac, A1418, 21.5-inch, Late 2013 and would like to keep the original 1TB hd and add a ssd pcie. In another post I found that there are compatible third party solutions. Are these the right SSD PCIe blades for iMac Late 2013?

Is this true?
