Can't get into recovery / download mode. "No command"

I've been trying to fix an S5 for a friend's parents, but no luck so far.

The problem

The phone turns on and goes straight into the "No command" screen, which flickers every 2 seconds or so

Things I've tried:

  • Tried to boot into recovery or download mode. All key combinations end up in the "No command" screen again
  • Tried several key combinations while in the "No command" screen to bring up a menu. Nothing works.
  • Tried various batteries / cables to see if that would make a difference
  • Tried hooking it up to my pc. Phone is not recognized (I don't even get the usb sound)
  • Tried a usb jig, but that does nothing and the phone doesn't start
  • Tried draining the phone of all power and charged it again

Any suggestions on how to fix this or where to find an answer would be much appreciated.

Edit: video of the phone in question. https://youtu.be/uHNM-9j4ZmY

I have the same problem. The screen is flashing "No command" and I cannot get the phone into recovery mode. Tried all key combinations, tried draining the battery and nothing works.

AGM A8 phone

Any suggestions?

if you can get adb to recognize the device. then you can issue command adb reboot download or adb reboot bootloader or adb reboot....

Okay, mystery appears to be solved. I did a thorough check, and it appears that the phone is in fact counterfeit... This also explains why the usb jig and the usual key combinations won't work. In case anyone is interested, I'd be more than happy to upload pictures of this fake so others can avoid buying the same phone. Guess my friend's parents are out of luck...

That might work. Try that and then post back.

I appreciate the answer! Unfortunately this is among the key combinations I've tried, and the phone fails to respond to it entirely. No idea why as these key combinations seem to work for others with the same problem.

Strange. Unfortunately, it almost seems that its dead. Was it rooted or messed with? If not contact Samsung and see what they have to say. If it was rooted, this is probably the cause and it is probably bricked.

von

Nope, it was on stock ROM (they're elderly people and have no idea things like rooting even exist). I've tried contacting Samsung but all they tell me is to get it into recovery mode and do a factory reset (yea... Thanks).

Not sure where to go from here. Not quite willing to give up on it just yet.

von

Im stumped. You could try letting it die and then trying again, although i doubt that will do anything.

von

Ah yes, I forgot to add that to my list of things tried (though I sped the process up by removing the battery and holding the power button to drain residual energy).

If nothing else works, I might just take it apart and see if there's anything physically weird on the inside. I doubt it... But at this point I really don't know what else to do.
