Hi,

There are solutions for different types of water:

Freshwater/Rainwater: try placing your phone in a bowl of rice for 24 hours. Charge it.

Chlorine/saltwater: Try putting your phone in front of a fan or airvent, and then try the rice method for 48 hours.

@st1011140031 the very first thing you want to do is to take care of that water damage. You cannot properly diagnose your phone until you got that issue resolved.

The first step is to not try to restart/sync the phone. This may further damage your phone. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using these guides . You must remove all the EMI shields of the logic board. If you do not remove those you are not cleaning your board properly. Clean everything with +90% (no less than 90%) isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide, and even so it was written for a 3G iPhone, all the points are still pertinent to your phone. Pay particular attention to the SMD components, check for charred, missing or broken components. You can then dry the board in an oven or equivalent at 220deg F (not higher;-) for a few hours. Best way to clean it would of course be through an ultrasonic cleaner. Consider professional help with that When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. Only then can you diagnose what is really going on with your phone.

Sheep is right, it doesn't sound like a memory problem to me either. It sounds like a damaged backlight circuit based on what little information you gave us. IMO, you need to find another repair shop that has more experience in dealing with water damaged phones and micro-soldering.

@oldturkey03 also makes an excellent point. The first thing to do in this case is to perform a proper and professional decontamination. Once that is done, then a proper troubleshooting of the problem can take place. If it is just a backlight issue, then your data will be fine.

The other point is that if your phone is recognized by iTunes, then you should be able to perform a backup even if the screen doesn't light up (unless you have to enter a passcode and the Touch functionality doesn't work either).

If you need to type your password, then I don't think it's a "memory" problem, it probably only needs a new LCD.
