iPod won't power on. Completely dead.

I've already replaced the battery in my iPod. And it still won't turn on or be recognized on any computer or take a charge. I want to keep hard drive because of all my music. Now I'm looking into buying a new logic board. Is there a certain kind of board I need to buy? Is there things to watch out for when switching out logic boards?

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

Well, that rules dead battery out of the list of possible problems...

This is not an answer or specifying the possible problem, but it might have something to do with the logic board. Not an answer, and not something to listen to as a possible solution. I'm inexperienced in this area of tech, but I plan to buy one for parts, take it apart, and study it. possibly fix it.

Point toward purchasing a new logic board (include a link), the guide (link) on how to replace it. I think this is it. Make it look professional. Take the credit @theelitepro_gd .

Here's a link to a logic board on ebay for $50 you can purchase, which has been taken out of a 5th gen. iPod. The logic board in the link is the only model that's compatible with your iPod (model A1136), the model number being 820-1975-A. Something you should watch out for. There are also two variants of the same model (both having the same model number), the one in the link being the 32MB RAM variant, and the other one being the 64MB variant.

There is also a logic board of the same model that is from a 5th gen. enhanced, or 5.5th gen., iPod which has a higher audio quality because of the Wolfson DAC sound chip built-in to the logic board. According to the description of the logic board in the link listed ahead, it is a lot rarer than normal logic boards of the same model because of this reason. The link on ebay is here. It costs $42 and has 32MB of RAM.

I have a link to an ebay search with the exact model (logic board), and with item location set to worldwide: 820-1975-A. If you want the 64MB variant, here is the link. It costs $66. Here's another one, which is $78, and another one, which costs $65. All three come from 5th gen. enhanced iPods. All the prices that are shown do not include shipping; shipping costs may not be the same for you as it is for me.

This is the guide that shows how to take it apart.

iPod 5. Generation (Video) Logic Board austauschen

I think this covers everything. Hope this helps!

I have also found an adapter that allows you to insert 4 MicroSD cards into your iPod. Unfortunately (but what else would it use?), the adapter uses the ZIF socket for the hard drive, meaning you will not be able to use your hard drive, which contains all your songs, while the adapter is in your iPod. If you might consider getting one of these, I would recommend what @mayer says and buy a USB-to-ZIF adapter. And move the songs from your hard drive to your computer before (or after, for that matter) you insert the adapter into the iPod while you are replacing the logic board. Here is the link for it. It costs $45.

Did you do a search on eBay for what a complete unit in good condition would cost? $50-$85. What the OP going to spend going this route vs buying all the things needed to do a possible repair? How do they compare?

i always miss something.

*sigh...

Personally I'd use a cheap USB to ZIF adapter to hook up the drive and see if it is accessible before spending a lot of money on a logic board. Also the computer you had it synced to should have all that music. But if it doesn't, use iTunes and import it from the drive.
