Replaced touch screen still doesn't work, not a ribbon problem

Really stuck on this one. Originally the Ipod had a white screen but upon doing a restore the ipod showed up fine, but then the touch screen stopped working. Tried restoring it again but no luck. So I went into it and replaced the touch screen. No luck. Checked for water damage-found none. Took the entire logic board out, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, reattached everything, still no luck. Everything works apart from the touch screen. What to do? Is the logic board fried?

If it is definitely a logic board problem, is it possible to replace only the top part of the logic board (where the digitiser connection is located)?

To answer your last question first, you can replace the "wifi flex cable" which is the board and ribbon that connects the touch screen. Only 3 things I can think of, the plug on the ipod is bad, the touch screen controller chip is bad (on flex cable), or the ribbon got pulled up and lost connection with the logic board. It is basicly taped on with special tape and isn't hard to pull too much on it.

The wifi flex cable is around $5-10 and the tape is expensive, but on ebay you can get a 6 foot peice for around $10.

Also just a side note, of my experence, the LCD screens requres the ipod to reboot to show up correctly (when dissconnected or changed), but the touch screens seem to always work right away for me.

Good luck and let us know how it works out!

hey hey-is there by any chance a step by step guide on how to replace the flexi cable? They are nice and cheap in Engalnd-about £8 ($10ish).

I have a few other ipod touchs (2nd gen) as well. One doesn't show a backlight, one the lcd screen wont work, and the aforementioned touch screen. Again with all of these I have replaced the parts but no luck-would changing the wifi flex cable have an effect on all of these?

Thanks!
