How does a person upgrade this systems RAM to 16 GB?

Hi genoa140,
AFAIK, it is not possible for this model, as the memory is directory soldered into the mainboard.
New Mac mini restricts RAM and storage upgrades, but hints at PCIe SSD possibilities

Yep! Soldered RAM can't alter it.
