Won't turn on. Doesn't finish POST.

It begins POST but doesn't finish. It ends with cursor blinking in top left of screen. There are no beeps. It won't enter the BIOS setup. Control-Alt-Del won't restart it. I have to hold the power button down to shut it down and then restart.

Thanks for your help ULEES. Although, there is no J2 near the battery, I did a google search; for "how to reset BIOS on Acer Aspire 5100 and found there's another version of the reset which says to remove the memory modules and underneath there are two contact points (J2). This is what I found on my particular 5100. I shorted the two contacts with a screw driver (power adapter and battery disconnected of course). After this it made it farther through the POST but then had an error that said "PXE-E61: Media Test Failure check cable PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM." After searching this error on google, I believe it was an error put out because I had no bootable device installed, so it tried searching the LAN for a boot device with no success. I was able to boot from my Windows installation disk no problem though. I will reinstall Windows and then leave some feedback here on how it turns out.

Yeah, keep me updated.

Now the problem with this laptop is that the touchpad, keypad and usb aren't working. The only thing I'm able to do with the keypad is FN-F6 to toggle the LCD on and off. External mouse and keyboard don't work. As a result I can't get into BIOS or Windows. I'm suspecting the problem is the motherboard.

Yes problem is in the motherboard now.
