iPhone 4s overheating on cellular

Recently I replaced the battery in my mother's iPhone 4s (using an iFixit replacement part) and further disassembled the device to clean off dust in the front camera. After I put it back together, it seemed fine, however I noticed it getting pretty hot.

After some days it occurred that it got so hot it showed the temperature warning with the thermometer symbol saying that it had to cool down before being used again.

When I tried to find out the source of the heat, it turned out that it was the cellular hardware. Whenever cellular was active, temperatures went up and the app "Battery Life" showed an outrageous power draw of up to 1600 mA.

It doesn't seem to be a software issue since repeatedly restoring through iTunes didn't help.

Did anyone encounter a similar issue before and can suggest any solution?
