I get this message when trying to burn DVD's"Device failed to calibrat

Whenever I try to burn DVD's I get this message "device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media".

I cleaned the lens, tried different Dvd's, changed the language settings to no avail. It can read them (most of the time), it can read Cd's fine.

Anyone can help me?

Thanks

I recently had the exact same problem with my 2007(ish) MBP. Did some research around the web (and iFixit, of course) to find some solutions and all I needed to do was reset the PRAM. Followed the steps, popped in a blank DVD, burned a few .MOV files to it and all is well again. Check the instructions here:

Hope that helps!

Hi.

I had the same problem, but only with double-layer DVDs. Since I hadn't tried burning these too ofter, over 2 yrs passed before I actually tried burning one of these for the first time. Each time, no matter what brand the blank DVD-DL was, I had the calibration error message.

I called Apple Poland (that's where I'm from) and - behold - they told me they would replace the drive with a new one free of charge, even though I was already past the warranty period.

Maybe this is what you need to do, too - even though your problem pertains to all - I assume - kinds of DVDs, not just the DL's.
