USB devices not working - bad logic board?

I have 3 macbooks with various degrees of liquid damage. 2 are a question for another day. Each was "spilled" on quite some time ago; maybe as long as a year.

Wives and daughters and macbooks don't mix.

The one I'm interested in is a MBP 13 inch unibody early 2011.

Started by reading your liquid spill/cleanup guide.

Took the machine apart - removed the logic board - cleaned any and all signs of corrosion with isopropyl - dried and reassembled.

Machine powers on, boots up, loads OS. But I can't go further because internal keyboard and trackpad are not working.

Now we get down to my question. An external USB keyboard and/or mouse do NOT work either. I can replace the internal keyboard relatively cheaply ($25 on Amazon) - but - is the fact that the external USB devices are NOT working a sign there's probably some wrong with the logic board?

It's a no-brainer to throw $25 bucks at it for a fix - but a new logic board will run me 10x that. Not sure it's worth it in that case.

Thanks!

Hmm then this could actually be some software issue dose anything work on the usb or internal keyboard that make it show it has any life for example a caps lock ? Dose the internal or external keyboard work on startup can you get into recovery with COMMAND+R ? I would also try a Pram reset as-well. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204063

No, the internal keyboard is not functional in any way. Caps lock doesn't work - power button doesn't work.

And no resets of any kind are possible because external USB devices - keyboard, mouse, whatever, are not functional either. Not at startup - not anytime.

ah okay it seems that it could well be a logic board issue i cant usally diagnose things without looking at them @danj or @mayer might be able to help you

Boy this is a tough call! So is the external USB ports power bad or is the internal & external USB connections not working (from the liquid damage).

The easiest thing here is seeing if the USB port is even offering power. While I have one of these you may need to get one which it s good investment! USB Mini Voltmeter. See if that offers a clue.
