Why does my display flash protect and will not work?

My radio display flashes the word protect and will not will not play. How can I fix this ?

I couldn't find any info on the error you're having with the display,

If you can identify what is wrong (Most likely the circuitboard unless it's only a certain type of audio that won't play (CD, Audio-In, FM))

but you could take a look at Sony Radio CFD-S05 Repair and use one of the guides here
