Upgraded to 4GB RAM and 500 GB SSD. Running MacOS Sierra

After upgrading system it heats up in short time with the fan running at full blast. On restart, it sticks at Apple Logo. Now even after recovery same issue.

What should I do? Go for a clean install of lower OS version?

Please guide me as my Ph D data is on there though safe I need machine to be started to get it.

I very highly recommend you get an external back up drive and use Time Machine like your Phd depended on it!

High fan spin on startup is most likely linked to hardware failure. Double check all your connections and make sure everything is plugged in first. Then reset Pram and the SMC, hopefully that resolves your issue.

I agree these are useful actions, but, given the condition of sticking at the logo that would imply a drive issue and neither of these would effect that.

Thank you resetting of PRAM and SMC worked well

Nice! You always need to reset these after you install a new drive or the computer may reject it.

I think you’re hitting the SATA I/O Speed issue here with your new SSD. You see your system:

As you can see in reviewing either your system only has a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) SATA interface so what ever drive you put in needs to run at this speed. The cheaper SSD’s don’t have the needed logic to run at the slower I/O we call these type of drives a fixed speed and most are SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) only. What you need is a drive which is either a fixed speed SATA II drive or an auto sense drive like this one: Samsung 860 EVO SSD here we can see the Interface line lists all three SATA speeds which indicates its an auto sense drive.

You're right. I must have overlooked the title. I didn't even see he upgraded to an SSD.
