How to repair Jaybird X3 left ear. Wear and tear caused wires to break

Wear and tear caused the left ear of my X3's to cut out unless i could get them in a VERY specific position that wasn't maintainable without keeping my hand above my head. I pulled them apart and need to re-solder the healthy wire back into the ends of the wires coming out of the headphone. I could probably solder them straight to the board, but wouldn't it be easier to solder the wires together?

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

The break is likely right at the point where the wire enters the earpiece. That would be a difficult place to solder it together, I had the same problem with the sound cutting out to my Freedom Sprint earbuds. The wire was broken where it entered the right earbud.

1. Disassemble the right earbud. (or whichever one has the broken wire.)

2. Cut the individual wires close to the strain relief and temporarily leave them soldered to the the circuit board.

3. Carefully pull the strain relief down along the good section of cable towards the other earbud.

4. Strip the outer cable jacket back about 1-1/2 inches.

5. Don't try to strip the insulation from the ends of the wires. Just pre-tin them with solder. The insulation will melt back out of the way.

6. Un-solder the old wires from the circuit board one at a time and replace them with the new wires.

7. Pull the strain relief into position near the end of the outer cable jacket. Secure into place with a tiny bit of super glue.

8. Reassemble the earbud

Where cable enters earbud , on that end remove the sleeve. To weaken up adhesive use hear dryer for 2-3 min . Front side of earbud u will see metal cap, thats the actual speaker with metal frame , goes as one unit. That part where u see logo stuck on earbud is located 3.7v battery secured with strong - mastic/silicon alike adhesive. Unfortunately you won’t be able to remove it without running earbud body

@Iggy Gedgaudas so finally what should i do? ruining earbud?

von

@parsaew it depends... in what purpose u want to disassemble them? If repair cable connection to earbud then u just need remove sleeve and do all repair in that area. After u done just use adhesive to glue sleeve back on. But if planning to change battery... then no go... done several sets of these earbuds . So i would advise to get for your self “liquid tape” to isolate resoldered cables

@Iggy Gedgaudas may you check bottom update

Ok! So , see above your cut you have sort of sleeve? Try cearfully remove it, then you will see how much space for work you will have. Your soldering needs to be done cable to cable

Hi, I’m having the same issue, and I want to thank all of you for sharing your insights.

I want to add this video that maybe all of your alredy saw, but it also helped me understand a bit more about the construction of the earbuds. I will try to fix mine later, and was the combination of this post and the video I’m sharing that gave me the confidence to do it.
