There are a few possibilities here.
1) The speakers have a problem that cause the amp section to work too hard. Once they heat up beyond a certain point, the heat will be detected and the output shutdown. If this is the case though, after a cool down period, the sound should kick in again.
2) The amp section has a problem. Many of these sets use a multi-pin IC as an audio amplifier. If the heat sink compound breaks down, the IC can over heat with the same results as #1.
3) There is a problem with either the pre-amp section or the power supply. In either case, if there is some DC current that gets through to the amp section, the protection circuit will kick in and shut down the amp.
A couple of things will help us to narrow this down:
1) Keep track of when this happens. Does it happen more quickly if the room temp is higher>
2) Open up the back and post some pictures of the boards here so we can more easily direct you to the potentially defective parts.
