What is wrong with this SNES cartridge-connector?

My SNES has the following symptom: it boots up fine and somewhere between 1 minute and 30 minutes after booting the game it dies out and blackens. The duration after which it fails varies each time, it seems random. I've tried different games, but the problem holds so it must be the console. Once plugged in and booted, holding the game back (by pressing it towards the back continually), seems to work. I've opened up the console and found something that looks like damage to one of the connectors in the cartridge holder. Is anyone familiar with this problem? How can I solve it and does anybody know what kind of damage this can be?

Based upon what I can see, the connector needs to be replaced. You can get one here:

@abrsvc "I have replaced over 100 of these" hopefully you did not try to replace a 72 pin connector from a NES with the 62 pin connector from a SNES on those. Your link is once more to the wrong part.

Max Caspers make sure that your console is truly a SNES. It will require a 62 pin connector for replacement. There are 3 different connectors for the SNES so make sure you get the right one. They are available but a big harder to find so check ebay.com or alibaba.com for a suitable replacement. BTW you do realize that the replacement requires soldering.

This sounds like the game connector is failing. This is a common failure. I have replaced over 100 of these in my career. The repair is relatively simple once access is gained. The replacement connector costs around $10-$12.
