How can I replace my FireWire port?

My MacBook Pro mid-2009 15" edition has a FireWire port that is not functioning. This MBP is not recognized in Target Disk Mode through FW800 on other Macs and when I connect a FW external HDD through the FW port, the MBP does not recognize the HDD. When I connect the HDD using a USB cable, the HDD is recognized. And when I connect the HDD using FW to a different Mac, the HDD is recognized. Eliminating all other possibilities, I have concluded that the FW port is not operational. Is there any way to replace it?

Fact that it doesn't work doesn't imply the FW port itself has to be replaced. It might be related to power or data feeds. It might be anything along the way, a bad IC, filter and so on. One way or another is a board level repair and needs to be taken care by a specialized lab which might be next door or not, depending on where you live. Even if it was just be port, it's a through hole repair which is not a very straight forward replacement with such multi-layered logic board, something I'd not recommend on a DIY basis.
