iPhone could not be restore unknown error code -1

my iphone 7 was showing a "sim failure" error on the phone and would not connect to the carrier. thinking this was a software bug i installed 11.4.1 the phone never rebooted and is now stuck in recovery mode. When trying to recover the phone on itunes i get the error "iphone could not be restored an unknown error occurred (-1)" searching the web this appears to be a firmware issue. is there a way to down grade or recover any of the data from the phone or force the update?
