New battery not holding charge
Changed the battery in the process of removing the old battery I heard a loud crack

Luckily cracking broken an old battery doesn’t influence the new battery performance. You probably got a bad quality new battery, it can happen, there’s a lot of that on aftermarket spares. Get from the store a free Battery Life App and check how it performs numberwise, if it gets worse day after day contact seller enclosing a screenshot and ask for replacement.

I ordered the battery from ifixit
iFixit has an excellent customer service. Get in touch with them and supply a couple of screenshots of battery performance if that's below standards and they'll replace it.

What made you change the battery to begin with? If it was just because battery life wasn’t quite what it used to be then yes—you could have a bad battery here. If the problem was rapid battery drain, would not charge, etc then you could have damage to the charge port or tristar chip on the logic board—in which case simply changing the battery doesn’t solve the underlying problem.
