What is causing a very loud buzzing sound when I try to dial

noise is heard when I pick up the phone to dial after the number connects the loud buzzing sound is worse ,so can;t dial out or receive calls what can I do?

What is the model number of the phone?

The dial tone should stop as soon as you have dialed the first digit of the telephone number that you are dialling from the phone.

If there is noise after that it is not dial tone but a fault either in the phone or on the line.

If it happens on all calls both when someone calls you and when you call someone then see the answer below

I've narrowed my same issue down to it being a fault in the phone. Bc When I plug in the old phone, there is no loud buzz in the dial tone. But when I plug in the new phone, there is a loud buzzing squealing sound rather than a normal dial tone. The loud sound IS the dial tone though because I made a call, and the squealing noise came thru on the other end of the line. Unbearable. What can I do to reset this Innovage desk phone, please? Thank you!

Hi,

It sounds as though you may have a faulty telephone line. (has it been raining where you are?)

Have you got any other devices, such as an ADSL internet service or an home security alarm system connected to the phone line?

If so, temporarily disconnect them from the phone line and check if the phone now works OK.

If not, have you got an old corded telephone that you can plug into the telephone socket, just to prove that the problem is not with your Uniden portable telephone?

If it still doesn’t work OK, disconnect your telephone from the telephone socket and then contact your landline phone service provider and tell them about your phone problem and ask if they can test your phone line.

Tell them that you have disconnected all the devices (if more than one) from the phone line in your premises. This way they’ll know that when they test the line that they’re only testing the line and not any equipment attached to it at your end.

Obviously you’ll have to call them from a working phone e.g. a mobile phone or perhaps a neighbour’s phone.
