Why my D620 bios will not even start power on process

At after pressing power on switch on my D620, the three keyboard lights shine for just three seconds and the DVD drive runs for 60 seconds then nothing happens. At any moment there is screen image or the hard disk makes any run noise.

I have changed the CMOS 3v battery and ade any possible swapping between the two memory modules to no avail.

Thks.

Vincent can you give more info on the "At any moment there is screen image or the hard disk makes any run noise" does it make a noise? Does it show anything? Does your AC adapter work? How is your battery? Have you checked with a multimeter to make sure you have power?

von

Ok, sorry, this is exactly the sequence of events:

1, Power ON (on Ac and batteries)

2, The three keyboard LEDs light for just 3 seconds

3, DVD drive makes normal operating noises for 60sec

4, Nothing else happens but power on LED is o.

5, No screen display at all.

Then I start troubleshooting:

1, I remove the batteries. Start on AC.

Back to batteries alone, and batt + AC

2, I change the 3v on board BIOS batt. cell

3, I remove H/D and DVD

4, Swap the two memory modules

5, start on one and the other memory module.

All this to no avail the lap top stays the same.

Thank you oldturkey

Vincent any POST beep when you start up without any memory?

von

Hi again

No, no beeps at all at any time even with any memory.

I am trying now to drain all residual DC on the mother board (no AC no Batteries) with no positive results.

I think the display unit is ok,as too many symptoms point to other issues, besides a few days ago, and after a day or two resting, and only two times after many power on trials Windows will start for a few minutes. Nowadays not any more.

Thankyou very much oldturkey, greetings from the Canary Islands.

Vincent If you have absolutely no POST error code, I would think that you are now looking at a CPU/motherboard issue.

I would try unplugging the AC adapter, taking out the battery, and now with no power source, push the on button a few times. (This completely drains it of power and fixed this occasionally). Next step I'd try plugging in an external monitor and turning on to see if it's your screen that is having the issue. If both of these fail it's a very high percentage chance that your motherboard is dead.

ThankYou Kevin

I tried what you propose, drain any DC, without success.

And I think the display unit is ok,as too many symptoms point to other issues, besides a few days ago, and after a day or two resting, and only in two occasions after many power on trials, Windows did start for a few minutes. Nowadays not any more
