White Screen and force down is not working.

Hello,

I decided to restart my MacBook Pro and all of a sudden when I restart it the screen is just white. I tried holding down the power button for at least 60 seconds to do a force shut down, but that’s not working. I’m afraid of opening it up and just unplugging the battery because I don’t want anything worse to happen to it. So I’m just wondering if there is any kind of solution to this? As of right now I’m just waiting for the battery of the MacBook to drain.

Unless you go disconnecting the battery with something metallic there’s very little risk to make things worst in unplugging the battery connector. Just use your fingernails to lift up the connector. Press the start button for 10 seconds with battery disconnected and plug in your magsafe after that so we’ll see if a system reset makes the Mac return to life. White screen and dead power button is pretty unusual. Try and press the Alt button right after the machine starts to see if you get at least a boot option..in case nothing happens it would be good to have an alternate boot media to start from a usb port, external drive or usb thumbdrive with os installed..anything available ?

White screen is usually indicative that machine is not finding a valid system. On this model the major failure is the hard drive I/R cable. Apple was even replacing them for free for a while, no questions asked. That is where I would start. The cable get damaged by the bottom case as it impacts the cable right where it climbs onto the optical drive. I put small pads on either side of the cable to prevent this.

There may be more than this..a faulty drive/cable should not prevent power button from working normally.
