Replaced Battery no longer booting up stuck on Apple logo

I just replaced my iPhone 3GS' battery yesterday and as soon as i put it back together nothing happened. black screen, I rechecked all the conections in the device and im sure everything is fine, when installing i did accidentally break off the grounding contact located near the "do not remove" sticker, could this be why its not working. Also if i charge the phone through my computer, but if i charge my phone through the wall charger it eventually turned on, but would only display the apple logo, no spinning wheel or anything . Im going through right now attempting to put the old battery back in to see if that fixes anything

update

just put the old battery back in the phone and now it will turn on without being plugged in to the wall, but is still stuck on the Apple logo

update

its now being reconised in itunes, so possibly just a battery compatibility issue.

the apn for the battery was 616-0435

So after i put in the new battery it turned on and reconised itself in itunes, now i did a restore in hopes that i would make it go past the apple logo and now after it finished and unplugged it and now i get the logo with the spinning wheel. it has been sitting like this for about 20 min

has the new battery charged on the wall charger? you may not have enough charge to boot up.there are lots of problems with these replacement batteries and stuck on apple. even though people have written lists of compatible batteries they continue to be a few that cause this incompatibility problem with the ios. check the number matches the old, try a dfu restore. return the new battery..

SOLVED THAT. I made my mind that it's the grounding contact issue.

I had exactly the same problem after replacing the battery. Tried everything with recovery etc. without any success. However, I was intrigued by the "grounding contact" issue reported by the first poster. In fact, I had noticed that pin, and remembered that I inadvertently had made it lose contact with the metallic box.

So, I disassembled and reassembled everything again. Took care of correct positioning of the golden pin, and magic! Everything works!

I have to say that I checked again all the connectors, so I can't be 100% sure. Period.

That being said, though admittedly a bit paranoid, let me add the following: the correct placement of the ground pin is determined by how much you tighten the screw under the "Do not remove" label. If you tighten too much, the pin falls under the metallic band with a click, and looses contact. At that point, to put it again in the correct position, you must remove again the whole logic board. Again, everything determined by you touching the "Do not remove" screw. You do the math.

could be that tightening and loosening that screw gave better contact with battery pins which are almost directly underneath it? If battery contact is poor there isn't enough power to boot up, hence the spinning wheel or apple. Sometimes it will boot fully if connected to wall a/c, but if left just on battery or USB/PC there isn't enough input to boot fully. I'm not convinced by your gold grounding pin/contact as it has more to do with antenna/signal according to most sources. Also when you disassemble an iphone the ground is usually tucked under the bezel not on top..no matter as long as there is contact.

Is the Connect to Itunes logo you receive or only the apple logo ? Try to keep the phone connected to a charge for a few hours and then try booting the phone again. If this does not work or if you have the Connect to Itunes screen and is stuck there use the Ireb tool from Ih8snow. This usually fixes errors then connect to Itunes logo will not disappear ( Also called Recovery Loop ). Typically Error 1013/1015 or something like it :)
