Where are/is the discrete graphics located on the logic board?

I was wondering where on the logic board is the discrete graphics located.

I was also curious if it is possible to desolder the discrete graphics from the board and have the system still work.

At step 27 of the guide, the big chip on topside is what you’re looking for : MacBook Pro (15 Zoll, Ende 2011, Unibody) Logic Board austauschen

I’ve never dared to try that since I don’t have the right machine to rework such big chips.. I am not sure the board will even start without the GPU in place, it might be missing powergood signals. But it’s just guess..honest answer is I don’t know :)

@arbaman I have another donor MBP from a neighbor that has the same failing AMD Radeon (discrete) graphics and I was wondering if maybe desoldering the failing discrete graphics would force the machine to use the integrated graphics. Just an untested theory. Thanks for informing me where the discrete graphics are! Now I know where to start. :)
