No on light after boot up chime

1. The on light at the front goes off after the start up chime.

2. The computer does not sleep when the lid is closed, however it will via Energy Saver or via the keyboard shortcut.

3. The battery is only recognized for 48 seconds after a cold start up. At this time the System Profiler say that the battery is charging, the Cycle Count is 0, and the Condition is good. The battery and charger are both new.

When I first got this used MacBook Core Duo the computer would start the sleep mode (front light pulsating) directly after the start up chime. The previous owner replaced the LCD because the screen was always black or very dark. The computer would just go back to sleep as soon awaken. However, this issue was resolved when the battery connecter /sleep switch was removed and cleaned.

My next step is to remove and clean the entire logic board. I was just wondering if anyone has any similar issue or may have any input, suggestions or ideas at all. Anything would be highly appreciated.

Well I just finished cleaning all of the 20 pin connectors and sockets in the Battery/sleep switch and now they are all giving me very good connection reading via a continuity tester. I am now also getting good connections from the Magsafe receptacle at all of the 6 battery connectors. However the results is the same. But when I test the Charge control pin (middle contact on the Magsafe) I get a blink or a false connection like a ground. Is this normal? Should this be a straight connection? Is the power in the center pin reduced? Is this what detects the battery? Has anyone here tested this connection?

I think you still have a problem with the Reed Switch. Here are some answers that may help you to understand how it worksand why I think it's the problem:

What is the reed switch for?...

Here's a good reference on it: http://www.ifixit.com/Discuss/thread/384...

Here's a good thread on it, go to the fourth one down: http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell/126...

Here's Apple's discussion on the problem: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa...

You may have other problems but get this one fixed first. Also, the very dark screen may have been the inverter. Would you give the last three figures of your serial number so we know exactly which machine you have. Thanks

Mayer thanks for the fast response, and yes I also believe that the problem is still in that area. I did buy a used replacement reed switch on eBay and it was said to be tested; however the results was no change. So now I think that the problem may be somewhere in the female connections. The majority of the board looks fine but there are still some signs of corrosion in that area. So I am thing maybe a good soaking in alcohol as a possible solution.

Also thanks for the links, good reading, the Apple site is down now so I will read it later.

The screen wont' go to sleep mode is b/c when the former owner replaced the LCD screen, he prolly left out the magnetic; located on the left side-Center of the screen. You can see it by removing the front lcd bezel.
