Replacement Screen Dim & Flickering after water damage?

Hi,

My friend dropped his 9700 in a toilet. I cleaned the PCB in 99% isopropanol. The phone booted up fine and was all working except for the LCD being dead, it seems there has been a short on the screen as the ribbon cable traces are scorched near the connector. 3 of the LCD connector pins on the logic board look dark also but there is no obvious physical damage under a magnifying glass.

I ordered the appropriate version [002/111] LCD from ebay new and installed it.The screen came on but very dim, it also flickers when using the track pad as do the LED keyboard lights.

I have re cleaned the logic board in isopropanol, tried to scratch some of the dark coating of the logic board connector pins with a pin, reset the blackberry, turned the brightness to 100. The problem is the same.

Does this sound like a problem with a component on the board? - if so is it fixable? Could i have a faulty LCD from ebay? - Unlikely but it looked it had perhaps been a return.
