I would have to believe that your breather is dirty. Find the breather and look for an air sensor. If there is one, its generally simple to pull it off. Go to any car part store and purchase a mass air sensor spray. Follow directions on can. You may be surprised how easy it is to fix this. Thanks for asking, Matt of Martins TV Repair.

How about a make and model number as we don't even know if it is gas or electric operated at this juncture.
