1 Power surge on hub port permanent. New motherboard? Other solution?
I am a total novice so hope I am asking this correctly. I was out of town and brought my laptop with me. I don’t know whether there wasn’t enough WIFI power in the hotel or what the heck happened, but I got some kind of power surge message and then my USB port no longer worked. (I have only two ports on my computer and one was previously damaged so now I have none.) I did everything recommended on Google to potentially reset it/resolve the situation, but nothing worked. It is gone for good. I’ve lived with the situation but now find that I want to be able to use the bluetooth dongle and of course cannot. (The computer did not come with bluetooth). I really don’t want to have to go out and buy a new laptop because outside of the problem with the USB ports it is working fine.
Is there some kind of fix for this problem? Should I replace the motherboard and if I do, should that solve the problem? Can I just go into any Staples (for example) and find a motherboard? Thank you for any potential responses and/or additional solutions!

Did this include unchecking the USB power management setting that can disable the power to the USB port?
If it didn't go to Control Panel > Device Manager > scroll down and click on sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers entry to expand the entry list > right click on the 1st USB Root Hub entry in the list > Properties > Power Management > uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" > click OK.
Do this for ALL the subsequent USB Root Hub entries listed.
When done exit from Device Manager and restart the computer and then after the computer has started etc, check if the USB port has power. (plug in your mobile to the USB port and check if it starts to charge is a quick check)
if you have Win 10 installed, right click on the Windows Start button, left side of taskbar and select the Device Manager link.
In Win 7 there is a link to Control Panel when you click the Windows Start button.
