Why is my MacBook Pro A1286 Late 2008 can't turn on

Hi,

My MacBook Pro isn’t turning on anymore after a regular shutdown. MagSafe LED is Orange when charging then Green on full charge, battery is OK I have tested it on another A1286, the charge verify LED button is OK too,

I’ve tried to reset SMC, hold power button long time with MagSafe, battery, both ….nothing happens

I opened the case, disconnect keyboard then test power on with power pads, still nothing. It was working perfectly till then, If you have an ideas please …

Thanks in advance,

Does the fan come on when you press the power button? Does the display has a slight shimmer to a slightly lighter grey?

I’m suspecting your logic board has died (CPU). Not much you can do other than replace it MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2008 and Early 2009 Logic Board Replacement

Hi,

I’ve fixed the problem by putting logic board in the oven for 7 minutes at 180 º Celsius, after waiting 30 minutes, reinstalled into case , it turns on.

Sorry @jmg12 - You really didn't fix it, you only bought your self sometime ...

180 degrees is not hot enough to reflow the solder. Your resurrected system still has a bad tantalum cap that needs replacing.

@danj actually 180deg C is equivalent to 356deg F and given the temperature tolerances on an oven it is pretty much within the ballpark of being a possibility to get it to melt solder. Why not let @jmg12 know which cap to change for a better repair?

von

@oldturkey03 - Seven minutes wouldn't be barely enough time. There are a few possible caps that I've needed to replace over the years but without it on my bench I couldn't tell him which.
