@papashakur - Hold off doing anything!

Sadly, your system has a failing display cable issue FlexGate-Part II !! Your problem is the video ribbon cable breaking down.

What is the length of your AppleCare or AppleCare+ ?? Some countries laws give you a two year warranty or if you have AppleCare+ it will be cover under it.

You need to replace the entire display assembly the cables are not replaceable on their own as in the older models (bummer!)

If you end up paying for it to be serviced make sure you go to a Apple authorized service center or Apple directly so you can get a rebate on the cost once Apple gets enough complaints.

Do fight for getting covered using the backlight flexgate issue! Press them for a warranty exception! 13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program

OK so what’s it going to cost me out of pocket? $700-800 dollars OUCH!!

Update (05/30/2019)

Here’s the cables:

The Pink marked cables are the ones that are damage in your case. They are part of the display assembly which is why you need a new display to fix this. This is exactly the same problem the stage light effect people have encountered as described here The design flaw behind the MacBook Pro's "stage light" Effect and you can even see it here YouTube - Apples 2018 McBook Pro's Attept to Solve Flexgate, Without Admitting It Exits

Again, your problem is a different cable from within the display assembly that these people encountered. In your case its the video feeds Vs the backlight cable that has become damaged.

Thank you .

I took it to a local technician said I have to change the whole screen checked at else where too said same thing , I'm in a country (Nigeria) where Apple offers minimal or no support at all you will rarely find a Apple Store around the ones around are local dealers in Apple product and other product so it will be hard for me to get a rebate, I am thinking of taking this on I just bought a screw-tool set or loosing the device I will appreciate any tips on how to cause I've never fixed a computer before .

Do you travel to Europe at all? I would recommend you take a repair vacation! ;-} Going to Europe gives you a chance to get it fixed for free!

Getting a display will be expensive! While it's not overly hard you could do it. MacBook Pro 2017 13" mit FN-Tasten Display tauschen

No I've never been to Europe , I just checked out the lid again and I noticed the screen appears normal / perfect whenever I try to close it , I bought screw driver set earlier today after local technician told me it needed a screen replacement but I don't think so and since I just noticed it displaying normal when I tried to close the lead strengthened that idea , pls If you have a clue or think it's still fixable without a screen replacement I am ready to open it

von

No you do!

The design Apple went with does not offer a way to fix this other than replacing the full display assembly! I wish there was a better way I haven't found one and I've tried real hard! Review the picture in my answer update to see what you are facing.

You are not the only one! Here's someone else facing the exact same issue! Some parts of my display image changes as I fold the hinge Check out his Vid here #flexgate MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) His is on the vertical where yours is the horizontal cable

%#*!^@, replacing the screen is too expensive of a cost for me right now I've heard selling the Mac at this condition is similar or same price with the cost of fixing it , I saw a related video on YouTube right after the link to the one you shared it shows the person fixing the flex gate issue and but he didn't say much on the tools he used and where he bought them .

Hey Papa,

Can you open and close the lid, see if that improves or degrades the image?

I would think that you may need to replace the J-tag on the board, or the screen connector cable.

If the screen is at some point able to display a good picture(looks perfect), the the screen and board are both good, you just need a replacement cable, or connector resoldered.

These are both common faults on the model of Mac.

Please look below and see if you qualify for repair from Apple themselves first.

Otherwise, Are you keen to open the device yourself?

Hello thank you for replying , I closed the lid and open it didn't improve it i think i tried that yesterday when it started and it might have improved it then but since it got worse it hasn't improved regardless of what I have done, I also ran a hardware test on it and it came back with zero errrors . I won't say I'm keen on opening it myself cause I'm a bit scared of doing something wrong but I'm interested in opening it up if it's a minor issue like plugging a wire back into something or stuff like that .

von

Well if it got worse then I don't think its a connector fault, most probably the screen connector cable, it was engineered too short,(It has been lengthen on newer MacBooks)

I don't recommend you opening this machine if you are a beginner, but if you have no choice, you have no choice...

1st Choice... Take it to Apple and have it serviced under the screen replacement program they have, if they don't shoot you down. Maybe free

2nd Choice... Have a Local repair tech replace the screen, Pay some money

3rd Choice is to ship it to someone who is reputable and will do the work in another country IE; USA, RSA, UK and so on... Pay some money and shipping for a "Good Job"

Below is Louis Rossmann, he is used to dealing with mail in repairs. Look on his website.

https://rossmanngroup.com

Last Choice... DIY... It's not easy replacing the screen but it can be done with the right tools and a lot of patients.

Well you are still able to still open it up BUT...

I don't think that this would fix the issue you are having, it is more a failure of hardware which is impossibly small and hard to fix. I have a really good microscope and still battle

Splitting the LED panel off of the assembly really is not fun and I have broken 2 out of 4 so far.

I was hoping that like my 13'' it was the connection was intermitant the maybe the connector could get re-soldered and happy days, but as it gets worse I would say that you need to replace the screen assembly...

Getting it to the best technician you can would be my advice. Trying to get Apple to cover the cost would be my number 1 goal tho, (like Dan says above) Apple have a program in service at the moment to help replace them under warranty.

Taking it to there iStore and telling them you are aware of the issue and want to claim under the service program

Otherwise the assembly is for sale on iFixit and is a lot easy of a job to do yourself,

Sorry about the troubles Papa

von

Thank you for very much , this was helpful and you were right all along .
