Can this connector be fixed?

I was changing the screen on an iPad 4. I don't believe I was particularly rough. Nevertheless, the connector for the smaller cable of the digitizer is damaged. Is there anyway this can be repaired be mere mortals, or does it have to be chucked? (I suspect the repair fee will be higher than the iPad is worth)

Stick the flex in there then fold a piece in paper like a post it note in half and then cut it to size and squeeze it between the flex and the top layer of gold pins u might need to pick out the remaining black piece of the top though

It's almost like the black plastic bit has been melted to the pins or something. It isn't budging. What I'd like to do is take a needle and pick it out through the spaces between the gold pi s, but I worry anything metal might short something

The connector is for the home button shorting anything will just make the home button appear like it's being pressed that's if uve left the iPad turned on... that top part should normally be lifted upwards to open it and then u pull out the flex it just compresses the flex so it makes contact with pins only 2 are really needed for the home button to work cant remember which two of the top of my head though lol

U may be able to get away with just leaving it alone and pushing the home button flex in then putting a bit of tape on top to stop it moving out of place, remember the flex should go between the two layers of gold pins so it's in u should see the top pins over the top of the flex

At this point I think it's a lost cause. I've managed to pick off the top black bit (pictures added to original post), but whatever is in between the pins is apparently there to stay. I can only get the cable in about a millimeter or two before it hit whatever is stuck in there. I've tried several methods to pick, flick or push out the material, but nothing's worked so far.

Here's one question I'll throw out, although it may be a stupid one: the little ribbon cable end has a gold side and a black side. Which side up? The way the cable is attached would suggest that it goes in gold side down, but I saw a video saying the opposite, so... If anyone can answer, that'd be awesome
