Discharge due to this blown capacitor?

I have a MBA early 2015. It seems to work normally but battery discharges even when in sleep mode even when powered off completely (about 20% during the night).

I took out the logic board and noticed this capacitor has blown. Can it be the main cause of the battery discharge?

I do not have a heatgun now but I have a donor board, only little scared to work on otherwise working logic board.

That cap belongs to battery charging circuitry and being blown may be partly shorting the power line causing the issue. Try removing it somehow, a soldering iron would be safer than hot air if you have no experience. Evaluate if drain stops after removal and if that’s the case you should be done. However I’d recommend replacing the capacitor even if the board should work without it too.

Thank you very much! I did get it off with the soldering iron and testing it now over night. The computer still works so that is a good sign. I noticed the the one on this board is "NEd AV7" but the donor board is "NES AV7". Other than that they look identical. Is this a suitable replacement?

What might be the issue with not replacing it?

Is it possible to replace just with cheap bulky soldering iron?

Are both boards the same board number? 820-3437 for example. If yes you can use that donor cap in place on original board.

Can be done with cheap soldering iron, bit harder as the soldering tip may be large.

820-3437-b donor 820-00165-A the one Im fixing. Not completely identical

@martin.fialka10 As @benjamen50 mentioned, you should check the board number, yours may be the 820-00165 if it's a 2015 model. Capacitors are there for a purpose, filtering, smoothing and so on and although the board may work flawlessly total capacitance would be altered and create issues in the long run. I'd recommend replacing it in any case, a leaded tin melts at low temperature, you should be able to do a good job even with just an iron.

@martin.fialka10 Caps have the same specs on both boards, just check it's not shorted and you can go with replacement

While swapping out the logic board will likely fix your logic board issue you may still have an issue with your MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2013-2017) I/O Board as well.
