When I plug it in it charges for a bit and the soon starts rapidly charging and stopping. Nothing is touching it and I've tried fidgeting with the charger by the charging port but it doesn't change anything. I've also tried with other cables and they don't help. Is there any way to fix this?

Paige Jandreau since you already tried all external solutions, you may have to replace the charging port. Your phone uses a flex connection for that. So, time to take it apart (PITA) Use something like this video to get into your phone. This is the part you will have to replace.
