What SSD will fit and can I increase RAM past the 4 GB max?

I have replaced the battery but still get spinning beach ball forever. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

OK finally got the RAM installed, but the top chips don’t appear to have seated correctly and I cannot pull the sides out enough for it to pop up like they did originally. It seems to be caught on the back/bottom of the enclosure they are to seat in.

Suggestions welcome, as I’m unfamiliar with how much pressure to apply to get out?

The computer is registering only 4 gig of memory and one slot is empty.

I also tried to back post the clock and date but the internet wouldn’t connect after I did this so I turned it back for now.

Does the DIMM tilt forward? If not the side clip didn't release.

Is the DIMM sitting evenly within the socket? If not you'll need to shift it as its wedged in.

It is kind of wedged out where moving the side clips doesn't have any effect. The DIMM seems to be wedged against the back of the enclosure. Is it substantial enough to wiggle without damaging it? @danj

I'm thinking you have the wrong memory modules! Take a picture of the original and the new unit with the gold contacts facing each other and touching evenly, take a second showing the labels and a third showing the chip markings clearly. post them here for us to see Bilder zu einer vorhandenen Frage hinzufügen

You’ll need 2x 4GB 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM’s to max out the system. The max amount of RAM your system supports is just 8 GB.

As far as the SSD you’ll need a 2.5” SATA drive. But you do have to be careful on which one you get. Your system has a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) interface. So you need to make sure the drive you buy supports this older standard. Review the drives spec sheet to make sure SATA II is listed. As an example the Samsung 860 EVO SSD is one of the few. Note how Samsung clearly states it in their spec sheet: SATA 6 Gbps Interface, compatible with SATA 3 Gbps & 1.5 Gbps interfaces. Many drive makers have pulled auto sense technology to be more price competitive and many people have moved on to newer systems so the demand for the slower drives has fallen.

You’ll need SATA to USB Cable to connect your new drive to your system as well as the needed OS installer file OS-X El Capitan.

You still have an issue here as your system can only support upto OS-X El Capitan 10.11.6. You’ll need to back date your system year to 2016 so the OS installer certificate is able to pass its date test. Apple sets the Certificate to expire 4 years after the last system that required it has been replaced. Here’s the needed steps:

Just to be clear, this SSD cannot be installed inside the MacBookPro case, it has to be run off the external cable? Sorry for the late question, but the standard HD stays in the unibody while I run the computer off the exterior SSD , correct?

Once the drive is configured externally using the SATA to USB cable, you can then swap out your original HDD for the SSD following this guide: MacBook Pro (15 Zoll, Mitte 2009, Unibody) Festplatte austauschen.

Your other option is to get a special frame to hold the SSD replacing the optical drive MacBook Pro (15 Zoll, Mitte 2009, Unibody) zweite Festplatte einbauen
