Shifter won’t move with shifter handle on

I pulled my center console out to replace the climate control bulbs. When putting it back together I noticed a gray plastic piece and a spring. I tried to figure out where it went on the shifter assembly but was unsure. After testing the shifter before I put it back together I noticed my car now won’t shift out of park. I removed the knob and I can shift it with the knob off but not with it on. I know it has to do with that plastic piece and the spring if I could just figure out where it goes. It looks like it has to deal with pulling the manual shifter unlock down when the brake is pressed. Any insight would be super helpful.
