Fusion HDD to SSD Upgrade Questions

Hey everyone!

I would like to upgrade the HDD in my iMac 2015 21.5” to an SSD!

Currently, it runs on the original Apple Fusion Drive set up, but since app loading times and read/write speeds are slow, I decided that I would like to make the upgrade.

I noticed that people mentioned something about breaking the drives before installing the new SSD? Is that necessary?

I was originally just going to take the Macintosh HD drive and clone the information onto the new SSD without breaking the drive set. Will that work?
