MacBook Pro - Power button malfunction
Hey there!
I currently have an issue with my MacBook Pro 13” Retina Display from Mid 2014.
I can start the MacBook normally with the power button, however, if I don’t constantly press any button on the keyboard it will turn off as if I would hold down the power button for an extended time. It even shows me the dialogue if I want to put it in sleep mode, restart or shut down. All keys on the keyboard work without any problems.
It only turns off on its own, it does not turn on by itself.
I have read about a similar problem in this post: MacBook Pro turns off after a couple of seconds
Obviously, my MacBook already ran out of warranty so I am looking for a DIY solution. I have read that it is not possible to disable the power button / reassign it to something else. For now, I can keep it running by constantly pressing the “fn” button but I would like to sort this out.
UPDATE:
I finally got the right tools to open the MacBook and I was able to verify that the keyboard causes the problem. I disconnected the keyboard connector from the logicboard and started the MacBook by jumping the power on pads. It did not turn off on its own again and in combination with an external keyboard I was able to use it normally.
Best regards,
J
Ist dies eine gute Frage?

Have you spilled anything on the keyboard?

@mayer I didn't but since I got it second hand I cannot know for sure what happened to it during its lifetime.
